1995 BA Hons (1st class) specialising in Fine Art from Chichester University, England,
after taking courses in drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture.
1995 Research Bursary Award
1998 MA with Distinction from Southampton University, after researching a 3 metre
square portrait by Peter Paul Rubens of Alatheia Talbot, Countess of Arundel and
her Entourage (1620) for a 20,000 word dissertation.
I am a portrait painter and printmaker, who was fortunate to receive a rigorous art
training in figure drawing and painting. As a result, all my work is underpinned
by a thorough knowledge of traditional art techniques.
This background experience is now providing me with the confidence to explore new
ways of creating likenesses using computer imagery. In the past many famous portrait
artists used such gadgets as mirrors, lenses, cameras obscuras and chemical photography.
I am keen to continue this tradition by using digital photography and computer manipulation
to achieve distinctive contemporary portraits.
I am also interested in the multiple format. Diptychs and triptychs provide not only
complexity and intervals of distance, but provoke ideas about time and space. In
this way I am trying to create a more substantial role for the images themselves.
